Chase Reaume successfully defended his M.Sc. thesis on the gene expression analysis of the Giardia cell cycle.


Kayla Campanaro received 3rd prize in the Cell Chemistry Division for her talk on the “Identifying the redox partner of cytochrome b5 in Giardia lamblia” at the 41st Southern Ontario Undergraduate Student Chemistry Conference held at McMaster’s University.


Jennifer Brown and Elizabeth Walden won NSERC Undergraduate Summer Research Awards to work in the lab.


Jennifer Brown received the Graham Hartley Prize from Chemical Institute of Canada for academic excellence in her 2nd year of undergraduate studies in chemistry at Trent University.

2013

Jennifer Brown and Elizabeth Walden received Robert Annett Scholarships for academic excellence in their 3rd year of undergraduate studies in biochemistry. 


In addition, Jennifer was awarded the R & R Laboratories Prize in Analytical Chemistry, and Elizabeth received the The David Sutherland Irwin Prize in Biochemistry for their studies at Trent University.


Kathleen Horlock-Roberts was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology (QEII-GSST) for her M.Sc. studies.


Chase Reaume was awarded the President’s Medal for academic excellence and achievement at the Master’s level at the 2013 convocation at Trent University.

Mirfath Mesbahuddin won an Ontario Graduate Scholarship for her M.Sc. studies.


Jennifer Brown received 2nd prize in the Biological Chemistry Division for her talk at the 42nd Southern Ontario Undergraduate Student Chemistry Conference held at the University of Windsor.


Elizabeth Walden and Kelly Nori won NSERC Undergraduate Summer Research Awards to work in the lab.


Kathleen Horlock-Roberts was awarded an Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarship from NSERC for her M.Sc. studies.

2014

Jennifer Brown is the winner of $10,000 in Tim Horton’s Duelling Donuts Competition for her creation “loving Reese’s to pieces.”

Several students associated with our lab were recognized at this year’s Chemistry Awards Ceremony: Chris Thompson (Canadian Society for Chemistry Silver Medal and The Organic Chemistry Prize), Samantha Stahn (The Makhija Prize in Chemistry), Eliza McColl (Graham Hartley Prize for 2nd year), Glinton Hanover (Graham Hartley Prize for 1st year).


Kelly Nori and Courtney Toms won McKerracher Scholarships for being the top two students in the 4th year program in Biology.  Kelly also won the David Sutherland Irwin Prize for her outstanding performance in 3rd year Biochemistry. 


Brian Lukaszewicz was awarded an Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarship from NSERC for his M.Sc. studies.

Samiah Alam successfully defended her M.Sc. on the characterization of the Giardia flavohemoglobin.


Kelly Nori and Julianne Hoekstra were awarded NSERC Undergraduate Summer Research Awards to work in the lab.

Brian Lukaszewicz won the prize for the best oral presentation at the 16th annual Quebec Molecular Parasitology Conference.


Julianne Hoekstra received 1st prize in the Biological Chemistry Division for her talk at the 44th Southern Ontario Undergraduate Student Chemistry Conference held at the Trent University.


Students who won awards for research in our lab this summer: Julianne Hoekstra (NSERC USRA), Nicholas Cook (BMO USRA), Rebecca Ridings (NSERC Industrial USRA with Noble Tech), and Jessica Chorolovski (NSERC USRA with Steve Rafferty).

2015 

Julianne Hoekstra was awarded the Charles Omole Scholarship for her high achievement in upper year Biology courses that are medically related.

2016

Eliza McColl won the Canadian Society for Chemistry Silver Medal and Robert Annett Scholarship at the Chemistry Dept. Awards Ceremony.  She also received the McKerracher Scholarship for being the top 4th year student in Biology.


Glinton Hanover was awarded the Charles Omole Scholarship for his high achievement in upper year Biology courses that are medically related.

Biology awards ceremony: Rubab Fatima was awarded the Charles Omole Scholarship for her high achievement in upper year Biology courses that are medically related.  Glinton Hanover and Zakhar Krekhno were awarded book prizes in recognition of their academic performance in third-year.

Eliza McColl received 1st prize in the Biological Chemistry Division for her talk at the 45th Southern Ontario Undergraduate Student Chemistry Conference held at the York University. Eliza was also awarded the Governor General Silver Medal at convocation as the Honours student with the highest academic standing on graduation in the Bachelor’s degree program.

2017

Chemistry awards ceremony:  Zakhar Krekhno won the Canadian Society for Chemistry Silver Medal and Robert Annett Scholarship.  Rubab Fatima also received the Robert Annett Scholarship for Biochemistry.  Eliza McColl received the Society of Chemical Industry Student Merit Award as the top-graduating student in Biochemistry.

2018

Chemistry awards ceremony: Zakhar Krekhno won the Society of Chemical Industry Student Merit Award as the top graduating student in Biochemistry at the Chemistry Awards ceremony.


Guillem Dayer is awarded the Governor General Gold Medal for the highest academic standing on graduation in a Doctoral degree program at convocation.


Students who won awards for research in our lab this summer: Kristen Yeh (NSERC USRA) and Akanksha Sirohi (NSERC USRA).


Jessica Chorolovski received 1st prize in the Biological Chemistry Division for her talk at the 46th Southern Ontario Undergraduate Student Chemistry Conference held at Wilfrid Laurier University.

2019

Several students associated with our lab were recognized at this year’s Chemistry Awards Ceremony: Serena Hope (Graham Hartley Prize), Alexis Doggett (Peterborough Professional Engineers Wives’ Association Prize), Roselle Wright (Robert Annett Scholarship), and Angus Sullivan (Society of Chemical Industry Student Merit Award as the top-graduating student in Chemistry).


Serena Hope received a Biology Book Prize and Joshua McGarry won the Biology Department Award for their high academic achievements at the Biology Awards Ceremony.


Students who won NSERC USRA for research in our lab this summer: Regan Caldwell, Alexis Doggett, and Serena Hope.


Francisco Alejandro Lagunas Rangel from the Politécnico Nacional in Mexico City won an award to complete a research internship in our lab.

2020

Julia Hubert received a prize for Outstanding Oral Presentation in Biological/Medicinal Chemistry at the 48th Southern Ontario Undergraduate Student Chemistry Conference held at Ryerson University.

2021

Kieran Freitag won the Charles Omole Medical Scholarship for his high achievement in upper year Biology courses that are medically related at the Biology Department awards.


At the Chemistry Department awards: Sophia Williams was the recipient of the CSC Silver Medal in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as well as the Robert Annett scholarship; Alexis Doggett won the CIC Merit Award for the top-graduating student in Chemistry.


Kieran Freitag won an NSERC USRA for research in our lab this summer.

2022

Sophia Williams was awarded the Symons Medal for the highest academic standing on graduation from the Honours Program in Science at convocation.


Kieran won multiple awards this year: Best Talk Award at the Annual Montreal Parasitology Symposium (AMPS), 1st prize in the Chemical Biology Division for his talk at the 50th Southern Ontario Undergraduate Student Chemistry Conference held at the University of Toronto, Overall Prize at the 3 Minute Paper (3MP) competition for his talk at Trent University, NSERC USRA for summer research.


Vedanti Ghatwala was recognized with the Best Poster Award at the Annual Montreal Parasitology Symposium (AMPS).


Giulia Bongiorni Galego from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil won an Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) award to complete a research exchange in our lab.

Multiple students from our lab won at the Chemistry Department awards: R & R Laboratories Prize in Analytical Chemistry – Kristen Yeh, Graham Hartley Prize in 2nd Year – Sophia Williams, CHUGS Past President’s Honour Roll - Roselle Wright, CSC Silver Medal Chemistry – Alexis Doggett, CSC Silver Medal Biochemistry – Serena Hope, Robert Annett Scholarship – Serena Hope.
